How To Invite An External User To Power Bi
- Login to Entra Admin - Users - New User - Invite external user
- Setup the user as shown below. Pay attention to the naming convention which is (Last Name, First Name)
- Use the verbiage pasted in the documentation below
- Use the correct invite re-direct url in the documentation below for the Invite redirect url and click next.
- In the Properties section,
- Enter the First Name, Last Name and Company Name
- For Manager enter the name of the Manager
- Usage Location will be United States
- Next click on assignments and add the user to the correct group based on the client. See the grid for groups below.
- Next click Invite on the Invite external user section.
- Next move the user account to the appropriate administrative unit based on the client - First search for the user you just created - Right click on the user - Add to admin unit - select the au-xxxxxx unit where xxxxxx will be the name of the client.
- Once that is done - the final set is to assign the appropriate licenses. Pull up the user under users - select the user - click on licenses and then go over to the office 365 admin center.

- In the Office 365 admin center you may need to buy the licenses if there are no pending licenses.
- Pull up the user under Users - Active users
- Goto the Licenses and apps tab and add the Azure Active Directory Premium P1 License & Power Bi Premium Per User License.
- Click Save changes
- Next click on multifactor authentication - search for the user - select the user - Enable MFA - Then Enforce MFA
- At this point, the setup is complete.
